PML’s main fundraiser is an annual Fiesta! It’s a festive, casual gala event with a social hour, mojitos, music, a Latin-inspired dinner with tamales, a silent auction, and short program to share updates about our community development work in Nicaragua, and a lively Fund-a-Need auction to financially support our mission. It is typically held in October or November from 6 – 9 pm at the Church of St. Albert the Great in Minneapolis. Because of the pandemic, the last two year’s Fiesta has been held virtually. We hope to gather in person in the fall of 2022!
THE 2021 FIESTA WAS A SUCCESS!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2021 Fiesta! Please watch this inspiring video, filmed and produced in Nicaragua by Marlon Moreno. WATCH VIDEO HERE! The video describes Project Minnesota/León’s grassroots projects in the villages of San Carlos and La Gallina, Nicaragua. To address poverty and economic hardship, worsened by the pandemic, PML will fund skills training for home-based businesses. Most of these businesses will be operated by women to support their families. Businesses include:
baking
sewing
raising animals for food
teen-run pizza and ice cream business raise money for school expenses
PML will also use funds for microloans to support these businesses. Last year, PML successfully piloted these entrepreneur programs and 100% of loans were repaid. We will also be paying for supplies for a local pharmacy in San Carlos.
