Proposed Delegations for 2012

Planning a PML delegation

Join us for a PML Projects Tour: PML sponsors an annual delegation for supporters to travel to León and learn more about our work and partners. The 2012 project tour will be from June 23 to 30, and will include a variety of opportunities to connect with our partners, learn about and contribute to our work, and reflect on the global interconnectedness of our lives.  Registration preferred by February 1st.

Organize your own tour: we welcome leaders from churches, educational institutions, book clubs and other existing social groups to work with the PML delegations committee to organize their own delegation.  Ideas for themes are included here but additional learning goals can be developed and customized for your organization.

  • Cultural celebrations tour: travel to León in August and be immersed in the “Gritería Chiquita” festival. Learn from your homestay families and PML partner communities about other León and Nicaraguan festivals and come prepared to share information about Minnesota festivals.
  • Awakening-your-inner-artist tour: learn why León is known as the city of poets. We’ll explore the local visual arts, poetry, music and theater scenes and see how the arts are infused into so many aspects of Nicaraguan life.
  • Foods tour: compare the life of a kernel of corn planted in Nicaragua to one planted in Minnesota.  How are food and agricultural systems different?  What agricultural products come from León?  What would help increase food security in León?
  • Health and/or education systems tours: explore, compare, and contrast the Nicaraguan and U.S. systems of health care and education.  Visits to public and private institutions, conversations with stakeholders and other activities provide a rich opportunity for exploring the pros and cons of the Nicaraguan system.
